Dr. Sheila McDonald Harleston, Music Director
Sheila McDonald Harleston was a tenured Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Under her direction, the University Concert Choir toured nationally and internationally. Harleston served as a panelist on the Maryland State Arts Council and has been the recipient of the Department of Fine Arts’ “Chairman’s Award.” She was selected as the Department of Fine Arts’ Outstanding Faculty Member, the School of the Arts and Professions’ Outstanding Faculty Member, and honored in the seventh, eighth and ninth editions of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. The University System of Maryland Board of Regents selected her to receive a 2008 USM Regents Faculty award for mentoring. Harleston served as a Regional Director for the 105 Voices of History (a choir consisting of representation from the 105 Historically Black Colleges & Universities) in connection with the premiere concert at the John F. Kennedy Center. In August of 2009 she served as a National Conductor for the 105 Voices of History at their second annual Kennedy Center performance. In April of 2010 she received a Distinguished Contribution Award for Outstanding Promotion of Black Music and Black Musicians from the National Association of Negro Musicians, Inc. Harleston holds a Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Music degree from Norfolk State University, and a Doctor of Education from Wilmington University, New Castle, Delaware.
